Biography
After studying under Lanfranc at Bec-Hellouin, Ivo became prior of Saint Quentin de Beauvais in 1078, then bishop of Chartres in 1090, where he played an important ecclesiastic and political role in the service of the Gregorian Reform. He composed many compilations on canon law, notably the Decretum and the Panormia, and proposed a distinction between the episcopal consecration and temporal investiture, which revolved the Investiture Crisis.
